Frequently Asked Questions
What do you feed your dogs?
This is a question we get asked often, and actually becomes a complicated question since we have 4 dogs. Maggie gets all Volhard Nutrition since her nutrition is most important for her and our puppies. Nash gets all Volhard Nutrition a few months before breeding, otherwise, he gets morning meals Volhard and evening meals Nature’s Logic kibble. Nature’s Logic is a non-synthetic kibble that also hasn’t had any recalls. Sadie, our adopted labrador, and our frenchie, Bentley, get Volhard in the morning, kibble in the evening (with water or homemade bone broth). All meals get added toppers of fresh fruits and veggies, yogurt, sardines, salmon/coconut oil, etc. These toppers vary from week to week. Why do we not feed all our dogs Volhard? Cost. With 4 children and 4 dogs, the price starts to get pretty expensive. Otherwise, we would be feeding all Volhard.
What do you feed the litters?
Our litters start Volhard Nutrition at 3.5 - 4 weeks old. They will also be given a “starter pack” of Volhard to take home with them including a lunch bag to keep the meat cold while traveling along with the Volhard powder. We suggest ordering a bag of Volhard before your puppy comes home as it takes a few days to come in.
What do you suggest puppy families feed their puppies after coming home?
Without a doubt, VOLHARD! Not only is it fresh, it’s easy. I recommend feeding this food for at least 1 year. If you decide to switch, I cannot stop you, but you will definitely notice a difference in the outward appearance of your dog. I know from experience with our own dogs how much a difference it makes.
Do you suggest driving or flying to bring our puppy home?
If you live longer than 8 hours away, I highly suggest flying with your puppy. Not only are you a new face to your puppy, their environment quickly changes from the familiarity of our home, to a strange place. The stress of driving for long periods can be daunting for a new puppy experiencing so many new sights and smells. The quicker you are able to get home with your new puppy, the better.
I have never flown with a puppy and it’s kinda scary! Help!
Flying with a puppy seems way more scary than it is. Trust me. I flew to pick up Winnie all the way from Winslow, Ontario in Canada…and by myself. First, if you plan on flying with your new puppy, I highly recommend booking a flight for you and your puppy as soon as possible. Of course, this will depend on when your puppy is born which will be 8 weeks after his/her birthday. We recommend Southwest Airlines if possible. Not only is it on the cheaper side, we have never had any issues with Southwest Airlines. For Southwest, pet flights are $125 within the U.S. Southwest requires all travel carrier to be under 17” (L) x 10” (W) x 9.5” (H). They also must be stowed under your seat for the duration of the flight. Please check with our airline carrier for all rules and regulations. If you have a layover and have time in between flights, I highly suggest going outside the airport to a remote area to let your puppy potty. DO NOT bring your puppy to the airport potty areas. Your puppy will also be sent home with a puppy pad for emergency purposes. Your puppy will also come with a collapsable food/water bowl for travel purposes. But remember, the more water you feed, the more your puppy will need to potty. If you are only traveling for a few hours, your puppy will be okay without water. You can find more about Southwest’s pet policy here.
IMPORTANT NOTE: If you plan to fly with your puppy, please send a travel crate to our home at week 6 so I can condition your puppy to it’s new travel crate. This will help your puppy be more comfortable for the duration of his/her flight. Please be certain you are aware of your airline carriers crate requirements before purchasing a crate!
What do I need to bring when I pick up my puppy?
Please bring a leash, collar, potty bags. We will be sending home a puppy swag bag full of goodies to keep your pup entertained, a blanket with mom’s scent, along with your puppy’s vaccination records, microchip information and Limited AKC Registration, meaning we DO NOT allow breeding rights on any of our puppies, no exceptions.

Yes! We will be adding lots of weekly photos on our website under “current puppies” or be sure to follow along on Instagram and Facebook.

No. All puppies will come with a LIMITED AKC registration, meaning no breeding rights. No exceptions.
Can we come visit our puppy before we pick him/her up?
We do not allow visitors from birth until 6 weeks of age for health reasons, as well as the added stress it tends to place on the mom. Although at the time the litter reaches 6 -8 weeks of age, we will allow visitors who have been approved and have placed a deposit.
How do we pick up our puppy?
We encourage you to come to our home to pick up your puppy. This gives you the opportunity to see the type of environment your puppy was raised in, as well as give you an idea of how to better transition them to their forever home. We do understand all families do not have this option, therefore in the event you cannot pick up your puppy, we will be willing to transport your puppy (by a Magnolia Creek Labrador family member only) to you, based on an agreement between both parties. Please reach out for more information. *We do not allow our puppies to be sent home with a puppy transport company.
Do you answer questions after we pick up our puppy?
Absolutely! If you have any questions regarding training, vaccinations, feeding, etc., we are here to help, no matter how big or small the question may be!
What type of training and socialization will my puppy receive before going home?
At Magnolia Creek Labradors, we believe training begins with the breeder. We use 3 different socilization and training process of Early Neurological Stimulation (ENS), the Rules of 7 and early scent introduction, along with introduction to the basic training skills of potty training, crate training, leash walking and sitting. You can read more about these training processes here.
When will my puppy be able to come home?
Your puppy will be able to go home at 8 weeks.
Will you ship my puppy?
No, we do not ship puppies, nor do we send them home with a puppy transportation company. Depending on the timing of the litter, we may offer delivery services by one of our family members only.
Why do you require an application?
By requiring an application from from all potential puppy buyers, this gives us the opportunity to properly place our puppies in the correct homes. This allows us to be certain our puppies will be taken care of for the rest of their lives with the family we send them home with. When you are purchasing a puppy, this is a commitment for the lifetime of the puppy. It ensures the puppy we helped come into the world to live a happy and healthy life the way we, as responsible breeders, intended.
