As a family of 6 (4 children from ages 9 to 19) with 5 furbabies (Nash, Maggie, Sadie (our adopted labrador), Bentley (our Frenchie), and Chloe our cat), we are definitely a full house! My husband (Marshall) and I (Erin), enjoy keeping busy around our home in a town called Brusly right on the outskirts of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. We also enjoy spending time at our forever home (a 4.5 acre property) in St. Francisville, when it’s not 100 degrees, clearing trees and taking our furbabies swimming in our neighbors pond. They love it so much they actually know when we turn onto the street and get so excited!
I also own another small business as an artist, Erin Speights Fine Art, which I also manage out of our home. In my spare time you can find me gardening, which I inherited from my grandmother and father. I also enjoy cooking, where you can also find me whipping up lots of yummy furbaby recipes, like bone broth, berry sauce and doggie cupcakes, which can all be found on our Instagram page.
My love for Labradors began in 1985 with Jake, our labrador my parents owned before they even took me home from the hospital. From that moment on, the Labrador breed has truly made a mark on my heart.
Meet The Speights
I have fond memories of playing in the kiddy pool with him, his tail knocking everything off the coffee table and his large yet comforting build that I fell in love with. Jake unfortunately passed away when I was 4 years old. My dad was heartbroken. As I grew up, he always talked about Jake and the memories we had with him. When we would pass a Labrador, we would always have to stop and pet it. But he never wanted to replace Jake, I guess in fear he would re-live the grief all over again.
In 2014, my dad unfortunately passed away, due to cancer. My dad was everything to me and now every time I look at a Labrador, I see my dad. I think about my childhood and how this amazing breed made a huge mark on my dad’s heart and mine forever.
Fast forward to 2016, a single mom of 2, I had been looking into purchasing a Labrador for a few months. On December 3rd of 2016, a cold rainy winter morning, my mom sent me a photo of a yellow labrador sitting in her garage.
She was wet, freezing, was so skinny her ribs were showing, and covered in ticks. She said she was so sweet and asked if I wanted her. I asked her to call around to find out if anyone was missing her. If anyone didn’t claim her, we would take her home. She (now Sadie) ended up coming home with us the next day. Her personality fit right in with ours and my kids fell in love with her immediately. I always think of her coming into our lives as a “God Wink”, and a little sign from my dad. She came at the perfect time and made a huge mark on all of our hearts.
In 2018, I met the love of my life, Marshall, who has blessed me with 2 beautiful bonus daughters, and a bonus dog (Bentley - the Frenchie) and bonus cat (Chloe). In 2021, after settling in our current home, we decided to add another Labrador addition to our family, our big boy Nash, and in 2022 our sweet girl Maggie.
As America’s most loved breed, Labradors are the perfect family pet, highly intelligent, eager to please and make great therapy dogs and hunting partners. Today, I am grateful to give my children the same joy from Labradors that I had as a child, as well as to your and your family. We are so grateful for this opportunity to raise loved, conditioned and well-rounded Labradors from our home to yours and so excited to have you along on the journey!
